All player races exist. Races are not really integrated well. Usually a culture will be one race with less representation of other races.
Humans are the predominant race. There are many different nationalities so players can pick almost anything from history and there may be a corollary. The local empire is a lot like Ancient Greece if it had been conquered by the Roman military but then conquered again by the far east.Dwarves are notable for their having built a society based on constructs and alchemy with little to no dependence on magic so the return and taint affected them less than other races. Dwarven clans almost always reside in the mountains near the raw materials they prize. Often staunchly anti-magical with a crude technological knack. The Dwarven clans are secretive about their engineering and alchemical advances and jealously guard the secrets of their crafting considering it to be a matter of national security.Elves are no longer the fey wood dwellers of legend, These days they live in small enclaves in human cities. They are sophisticated and socially sought after but tend to shun human company. The elves are a lot like jews in the 1930s. Lesser races such as gnomes and halflings exist here and there but have been pushed to the edges of society by larger more aggressive races. Basically they are seen as immigrant labor and often looked down upon. They have most of the worst paying jobs and the smallest most run down houses. But they are still a cheery folk that manage despite difficulty to survive at the edges of human culture.Half-orcs do not exist as a mixed race but instead are deformed individuals born from prenatal magical exposure. The taint makes them malformed and frightening but in civilized lands it is common that they are tolerated and able to make a living for themselves in whatever society they most closely identify with.
