After going upstairs Kylorin continues to try and calm the excited Seraph whom is bubbling with things she has done that day but on getting upstairs they find there are two psuedodragons handing outside the room. Kylorin lets them in, orders some food sent to her room and has beauty spa time with the dragons. She uses her perfumed oils and offers the dragons tasty morsels from her plate. The talkative one is introduced as Summersage while the other dragon is more aloof and tends to watch more than participate. Sage is interested in hearing about the curse and asks if Kylorin is the master and seems surprised that Kylorin says she is just a friend. Sage seems wistful and looks at the other dragon to see if it is also interested but that one seems unimpressed.
Celadon finishes up in his room and goes door to door offering his magic to clean off the skunk spray from Kvothe's manor. Freya readily accepts as does Kylorin but Eddie needed some time to replenish and asks Celadon to hand out with him and help him recover since his magic has a way of soothing wounds and Eddie was pretty badly injured in the Merchant "prince"'s manor. Celadon puts aside his resentment for Eddies actions form earlier in the evening but is puzzled that despite his frequent cleaning of Eddie and Lindal he is not able to clean their room of its Sulfurous stench. (Left by the Imp's visitation below)
Lindal heads downstairs because he was dying to see Bonnie whom tells him of her adventures form the day. She also has spent a while casing all the guides in the room. Azaka has been challenging and arm wrestling different men to armwrestling. The albine dwarf Musharib stands awkwardly inside the door as if he feels he should not be present. Two tabaxi sit and drink beers in the corner. A pair of dandies sit at the bar talking animatedly. One a man in fine silks and the other a halfling with white hair. A older woman with carefully coiled hair looks around the room and upstairs with distaste before going over to the bartender, asking if anyone else is staying at the in. Find out that the people at the inn are Volo (at the bar pretending to be a guide to get drinks) and the party who are hiring guides. At that news Eku harrumphs and leaves the inn unwilling to wait any longer. In the corner nearest to the stairs a handsome Thule man in fine silk clothes watches the upper floor intently. While the only other people in the inn room are Undril and Soggy Wen (Reynold)
Bonnie recounts her adventures from the day and mentions that the halfling Gondolo was all over her earlier talking himself up and bragging that he and his business partner would be rich after looting a dead dragons horde. And that she should get in on the ground floor to ensure a share of future riches. But he mentioned how he only offered this to her because of her clearly superior breeding and that pissed her off because as an orphan she had been shat on by blue bloods like Gondolo her whole like and and so Bonnie flattered and charmed him until he showed her the map and once she knew what to looked like she managed to palm it off of him and replace it in the scroll case with a copy of Salida's pamphlet in which Gondolo and Faroul are called utter charlatans. She seems extremely pleased at having pulled off the heist and considers it ultimate karma against the arrogant halfling.
While she and Lindal are chatting Freya comes downstairs and heads over to speak to Undril but Musharib who had been standing by the door awkwardly marches behind her talking to her back until she notices him and turns to him but this startles him so much that he loses his train of thought and starts over form the beginning but Freya quickly realizes that he is recounting the verbiage from his pamphlet.
The jungle is my home. I know it well. I can guide you anywhere in Chult for a fee of 5 gold pieces a day.
Please, If adventure you seek, join my quest to reclaim Hrakhamar, my clan’s ancestral forge. A volcanic eruption forced us to abandon it and then the firenewts that have since taken over and must be driven out or destroyed for my people to again have a home. The jungle is a cruel home as the sun burns my people but my people can not move on unless we can sneak in and recover a relic known as Moradin’s Gauntlet. The firenewts must not be allowed to keep it! If my people can recover this item we can move one.
If you love dwarvenkind, then hear my plea and join me in returning Hrakhamar to its rightful owners. I will waive my fee for your assistance...
Freya listening intently is surprized as a firm hand claps her on the shoulder. Hew Hackenstone speaks form behind her.
Freya is this figure annoying you? I heard him calling that land his own but I think that if we drive off the firenewts then it should be considered our land by right of conquest. I was in the forge not but 6 months past and I didn't see any of her folks fighting to recover it. I think that being that I was teh last dwarf to walk those hallowed halls i have more claim to it than he does at this point.
Musharib starts and replies softly meekly
But it is my people's homeland. We had it for generations, it was only a natural disaster that...
Hew again interrupts
Seems yer people failed to have safeguards in place to relieve pressure if the volcano erupted, maybe some better caretakers are called for.
The dwarves keep argueing as Freya a notices a slight tug on the back of her chain. Bonnie is shyly standing behind her and wanting to speak. Freya turns and saying s "Hi Bonnie, is there something you wanted?" Bonnie smiles shyly and looks back at Lindal who gestures for her to go ahead she takes a deep breath and says "Freya can I speak to you for a moment" Freya nods and says, "sure these blockheads will argue all day go ahead" Bonnie blushes and says "I would prefer it to be private" stuff epping aside she tells Freya that she would love to get Emperors signature and that Lindal said they were friends. Freya seems puzzled and says "whose?" But Hew steps forward seeing the pointing finger and says, "What's up lassie, ye got a question fer me?" Bonnie again glances back at Lindal for support and then begs Hew. "Please could you give me a autograph, I have always admired your work. Your exploits in the Executioners run are legendary and I wish I had a tenth of your courage" Hew tries to shush her assuring Freya that he may have gotten a little reputation as a troublemaker but it is totally distinct from his work as a guide. He does take pity though and says "Well for a friend of Freya I will do anything so sure I can give you an autograph, do you have anything for me to sign?"
Bonnie pats her clothes and then pulls out the map handing it to Hew/Norton who takes it with a flourish and then starts to sign the document in grandiose letters. Across the room the halfling Gondolo sees the map and starts to scream incoherently "You.. you.. you..." Before leaping from his chair and charging across the room. Lindal steps in his way and grabs for him but Gondolo does an old Rugby maneuver twisting and spinning free from Lindal's hands. Celadon just down from upstairs and seeing trouble grabs the halfling but is left holding only an empty shirt as Gondolo slides out of his shirt and continues through Kylorin's legs towards Bonnie. Freya steps between them and Hew lifts the map over his head and says "Are you making trouble, Gondi?" Gondolo looks up and sees Emperor Norton and blanches. "No my lord". Hew/Norton says "I don't want you to be making trouble here, I think you are drunk. I would hate to kick you out of old city but if you cause any more trouble I am going to have to lay down the law." Gondolo looks full of fear clearly afraid of Hew and realizing that a hostile party surrounds him.
With that taken care of Eddie talks to Faroul who keeps insisting on calling him Eddie risking blowing his cover. Eddie covers by pretending not to know him but offers a great business opportunity if they will meet with him the next day but at this point the Tabaxi in the corner ask why they would use fools when there are skilled guides who can get them safely through the jungle. River Mist is a one eyed tawny cat person with a eyepatch while her brother Flask of wine tends to echo his sister. But Eddie uses the chance to ask both groups what they would need on a journey. River quickly says, Canoes for traveling, rain catchers to gather drinking water, and weapons to defend yourself when all else fails. Faroul says that insect repellent to which Mist says you only learned that from me when my brother and I saved you when hunting in the jungle we found you weak and shivering from fever. Faroul responds but we have a Triceratops that can carry plenty of water and et us travel in style. River replies, but boats are faster. Faroul retorts only if you are heading the right direction and what do you do when you come to a waterfall. River snarls "It is called portage and any competent guide can explain how to do it". Eddie winks at River and then says Faroul you convinced me. Come back tomorrow so we can talk more in person. Flask of wine seems angry at this but river makes some gestures in thieves cant telling him that Eddie is ditching the rube and to hold tight and he sits back signing "Good". With the two idiots gone things settle down. Asoka arm wrestles Freya and Celadon and extracts agreement that the party will help her retrieve an family heirloom from the Pterafolk at firefinger..
The party finishes interviewing candidates for guide and tells a few guides to come back the next day. There is also a brief discussion between Undril, Reynold and Celadon and Celadon is taught the ritual of arcane echos. The party move upstairs to their private quarters and helps the inebriated Volo up to his quarters ("accidentally" acquiring a copy of his book in the process) and then proceeds to have a discussion on the different guides they met. Eddie reveals that the Tabaxi are probably associated with the Zhents and that the Zhents feel so that someone high up in Fort Balerian is probably working with the pirates and would like to gather proof. Most of the group liked Asoka though Freya does say she thinks each of the Dwarves have their strengths. Kylorin discusses what she had learned form dealing with the psuedodragon and then everyone is thoroughly exhausted and elects to go to bed.
When the group was sleeping Celadon had weird dreams like he was talking with an increasingly frustrated Succubus. Meanwhile Kylorin had an awful nightmare of falling as a paladin, killing others, horrifying the dragons, and the next morning woke all wrung out and permanently drained of health. When the party investigated they found that the necklace she was carrying and suspected it might be cause of the awful night's sleep.
