Cowboys
So I am looking at running a rather odd Dnd 4th edition run based on the module "Keep on the Shadowfell" converted to the old west. Basically it is a world where magic used to exist but disappeared and might be reappearing.
(For people who played in my previous campaign this is a century after the gods died off. Magic has faded, old religions are viewed with suspicion, and new faiths are based on communities rather than being places where miracles are expected to happen.)
I am hoping to have about 5 players for this.
This land used to be called the Free Cities. Forgotten wasteland would be more like it. There are more lawbreakers than law and that is where the pretense at law is made. Yet you are working on the side of justice. You have a grudge against a man named Kalarel and the gang he runs and the fact that there is a price on his head is just a bonus as far as you are concerned. He claims to be a priest of the old gods, but the hoary old gods have been dead a century or more. But who he is doesn't matter, what matters is what he did to your friends.
Maybe he roped your sister to his cult. Maybe his gang killed your friend while collecting "tithe" from people travelling the highway. Maybe you are in it for the 500 dollar reward. Or possibly you just have a strong sense of justice and want to see the law served. Whatever the excuse he has a debt owed that can only be paid in blood.
Cowboys in Sula is a Dnd 4th edition run in a land bereft of gods and magic. Elves and dwarves have been gone so long few people believe they existed. We are using base 4th ed classes with ability descriptions tweaked to make sense in a world filled with cowboys and Indians rather than trolls and dragons. I have made some sample characters described below but I am willing to let anyone create their own character and expect the first run will be character generation/tweaking and a simple combat for learning the rules.
Name Role (Class/Race) Description
Hoss Cowboy (ranger/halfelf) Abilities include lasso and pistol use.
John Marshall Sheriff (cleric/human) Healing by the Marshall is morale not magic, "Suck it up kid, that bullet just winged you."
Juarez Bandito/Bounty Hunter (rogue/human) Knife-wielding bounty hunter. Fast-moving close-in fighter.
Edgar Crane Scholar/Rifleman (warlock/eldaran) Medical doctor with an interest in investigating the peculiar.
Fredricks Prospector/Crazy Old Coot (mage/tiefling) Primarily uses dynamite and shotgun. Has an eye patch covering misshapen eye.
You don't need to know 4th edition rules, hell we will probably be modifying the rules to make sense with guns and spooky old powers that are stirring awake. Let me know if you are interested and what days would be doable. I would like to run every other week and have the games at my place in Malden. I expect we would have about 5-6 sessions in the plotline so about 2 months start to finish.
