Divine healing by touching Jesus
Let us read the 5th chapter of Mark about the healing of two persons by Jesus. Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, saw Jesus and fell at His feet. He then besought Jesus greatly to heal his little daughter who was at the point of death. When Jesus was going with him to his house, a certain woman who had an issue of blood twelve years and “had suffered many things of many physicians and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse” came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment (Vs.25-26). She said, “If I may touch but His clothes, I shall be whole”. Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. When Jesus came to know this incident, He said, “Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole: go in peace, and be whole of the plague”. Then Jesus went to the house of Jairus and raised his dead daughter to life. Of these two instances of healing, the healing of the woman is all the more significant. Nobody brought her to Jesus. Neither did Jesus intend to heal her nor was any prayer made to Him by that woman. Neither did Jesus touch and heal her as was expected. It was she who took the initiative and touched Jesus. She simply came there from amongst the crowd and touched His clothes.
