I made a pencil drawing of Hermione Granger (Emma Watson). The setting of my drawing is a corridor in the Hogwarts castle. I made this using bristle paper (my personal favorite) and my own set of Prismacolor pencils. First, I created my reference in Krita. To do this, I combined several images and put them together. Next, I took my now printed reference photo, and I added grids the bristle paper and the photo reference. After this, I put down the basic shapes using a 4H pencil. Next, I went through and colored it in box by box. Once I was finished with that, I made a couple quick changes and it was done. To explain why there are two pictures up at the top of the screen, I used Krita to fix the positioning of the right eye, and I fixed the color in several areas. In this piece, I used line to show shape, color to show value and texture, and value to show form.
In this piece, I used informal balance and a little low key lighting. Throughout the process of this drawing, I was constantly frustrated with the right eye. Once, I completely erased the eye (I have an eraser that can remove colored pencil)! In the end, it bothered me so much, I used krita to fix it. In addition, I changed the background up a lot. To start, I had a patronus in the background, but I really did not like how it was coming out. Also, the shadows in the background made it hard to tell where certain thing were.
The meaning behind the drawing is that Hermione is waking through the corridors at night, and breaking the rules, to get another book. This project relates to my life because the Harry Potter were very important to me when I was little, and I still enjoy them now. In addition, I am really happy because this is the most realistic drawing I have ever done. Although I am very happy with it, there are many things I wish I could fix on the original:
