The subject of my creation is a turtle stuck in a piece of plastic. In the background, there is churning water filled with pieces of trash. I painted most of these in dark blue and grey to create a hazy background. I made this using graphite pencils, micron pens, gouache paint, and a highlighter gel pen. I started with a piece of paper with circles. I knew that I wanted to make a single cohesive piece, so I went from there. My first idea was to use the circles as windows reflecting a futuristic city, but I thought that might be a little challenging to read. Then, after turning the paper a few times, I decided to make it be a piece of plastic with a sea creature of some kind stuck in it. Then, I sketched out my idea, added pen, painted it with gouache paint, and added some more pen lines and highlighter to add emphasis. I used line to show shape. Shape and value to show form and texture. I used contrast
