Time Capsule

Time Capsule

The story behind the first drawing is that I despise my Amazon echo because I use it for an alarm clock every morning. It is the only thing that can wake me up because it is very loud and annoying. The self portrait is a self portrait from below, and the third drawing is the side of my house. These projects relate to my life because I have done similar drawings for my third year in a row. Each new set show improvement from the last year's time capsule drawings.

I made each of these with 2 graphite pencils: 4H and 6B. I used the 4H pencil to lay out the composition of the Amazon echo, the general shape of my face, and the important lines in my house converging at the vanishing point. Then, I used the 6B pencil to add detail to each of these drawings. Because the first and third drawings are messy sketches, I tried to use my pencil to capture the general ideas than focusing miniscule details.

I created these drawings using value to creates lines, which create form and texture. I made sure to use a soft pencil so that I could use a wide range of value. My drawing started as light sketches. Then, they became more polished sketches showing my Amazon echo, my face from below, and the side of my house. Some possible next steps might be making my self portrait symmetrical, adding more detail to the cord and the floor, and adding more detail to the bushes and the trees in the background.
