The story behind this drawing for this piece is that the character is at peace. They are floating in an almost meditative pose while a bright light shines behind them. The rope they are attached to is connected to a ship, and there are planets and stars in the background. This relates to me because it symbolizes the idea of trying to stay connected to what is going on in the world while staying calm. Additionally, I was really excited about trying out this color scheme and environment.

I made this using my tablet because I wanted to create contrast between the light and dark of the environment, which would be difficult to create using traditional art supplies.

This piece started with a lot of reference photos. I found photos of a character in a music video to get the pose, and I used several photos of the outside of a spaceship to make the shape of the one I decided on. Initially, I used bright blue light, but after a while, I noticed that the lighting didn’t make sense, so I added a bright light behind the character, which illuminates the things in the drawing. Finally, I adjusted the lights and darks, and I increased the saturation. When I was making this, I tried to use the lighting to emphasise the character, and I tried to use different values to show the form of the spacecraft.

Going forward I may add more to the background, but I kind of like how empty most of it looks.
