Animal Sculpture
I made a peacock sculpture. To make this, I used newspaper and tape to form the body, a combination of paint samples, construction paper, and paint to color it. First, I crumpled up newspaper and covered it in tape to form the body. Then, I made a long shape to make the neck. After this I formed the head and the beak. After this, I layered newspaper to make the tail feathers. Next, I covered the peacock's body. And lastly, I used two plastic gems for the eyes. I chose to create this specific piece because it used color to show value, and pattern to show texture.
In this piece I used informal balance for the designs to give a more natural look. Throughout the process I used to make this piece, the design changed a lot. First, I decided what animal to use and I made a large annotated sketch. During this phase I wanted to have the tail feathers trailing around a large cylinder where it was standing. Next, I started making the peacock by crumpling newspaper and taping it together. Once I finished this, I decided to change my initial plan and give it tail feathers instead. After this, I covered half of the body with blue paint samples, but unfortunately, I ran out, so I used construction paper.
There is not really much of a story behind this sculpture. This project relates to my life because it gave me more experience in something I'm not at all used to. Here are some things I wish I could improve on:
- I like my starting idea better
- The porportions are off
- The face was done too quickly
- The tail feathers are messy
- I didn't finish the back of the tail feathers
- It does not stand perfectly
