Sustained Investigation #10

Agree to Terms and Conditions

9 x 12

Digital

Experimentation:

The main idea that guided this artwork was how agreeing to terms and conditions is making a deal of sorts when most people, admittedly me included, don't even know what they're agreeing to. The figure holding out its hand represents this, I used lorem ipsum text to get a large block of text, and I put a checkbox with "Agree to Terms and Conditions".

I made this with procreate on my tablet. I used a black brush to define the face, body, and hand. After that, I used an alpha lock to color within the shapes.

In order to make this, I experimented with the combination of two brushes to create a bright look that evokes a digital feel. My first attempt had aspects that I was happy with and aspects that I didn't like as much, so when I started over, I made use of the aspects that I thought were the strongest: the direction of the brush strokes, the brightness of the colors, and the shapes breaking free from the figure to create a digital-dissolving effect. When I had finished my second attempt, I experimented with blue sketchy lines in the background after seeing how my sketches created a wire-like effect.
