Circle Project
I made a digital drawing of a some trees and orbs. Although it could be Earth or some other planet, I've decided that it's the redwoods thousands of years in the future. I made the initial sketch on paper with pencil. After I was satisfied with that, I took a picture of it, and I uploaded it into krita. Then, I colored it with various brushes and layer modes. I used line to show shape and texture. I used value and color to show form. I decided to emphasize the two trees in the foreground by adding more detail. I added contrasting values and outlines to distinguish between the layers of trees.
I used the rule of thirds to emphasize important parts of the drawing. I used informal balance, a little silhouette lighting, selective focus, and low key lighting. My project started as a couple brief composition sketches. Then, I used bristol paper, pen, white gel pen, and graphite to create the initial design. After I was satisfied with that, I took a picture of it, and I uploaded it into krita. Then, I colored it with various brushes and layer modes. After this, I adjusted the colors in the shadows, highlights, and midtones, the contrast, and the saturation.
I found inspiration in science fiction book covers. For example, I really liked this specific cover on the three body problem, a book I liked a lot. This project relates to my life because it gave me more experience working with digital art. In addition, I might submit a cleaned-up version to the Scholastic art competition. I will clean up/fix the following:
- It is very small, so I might start over the digital coloring with a larger canvas (scroll down to see the lar.
- Adding more realistic texture to the trees.
- Adding more progression to the out of focus backround.
- Adding more color and shading to the orbs
- Making the orbs disappear behind trees
- Adding more detail to the top
