The subject of my creation is some mountains and a lake. I made this using the program named Sketch-Up on my computer. Then, I used 3D printing filament to print out my design. I decided on this specific design because I wanted to create the reflection effect in 3D. Often, the reflection of a lake looks almost like another identical world, except flipped upside down. I plan to stack two to form a sphere shape, and when you look at it at a specific angle, it looks like a reflection. I used shapes to show the form of the mountains and I used texture to portray the idea. I decided not to add color because I like how it looks in this more pure form. I used balance to create interest, and I used pattern in the hills to create unity.
I used formal balance, and once it is complete, it should be up to the angle that one holds/displays the object to decide how high or low the horizon line is. This project started as a concept. Then, I took the time to learn how to use SketchUp. After several trial runs, I created a finished product. Originally, I was going to add 3 circles creating the framework of the sphere, but I decided that blocked too much of the inside, so I opted with one outer rim, and one around the outside.
There are several meanings behind this artwork. The main theme in my concentration is the juxtaposition of technology and nature. Additionally, in this specific piece, there was the juxtaposition of small and large. Mountains are so huge, and they often give a specific effect when you look at them (having a reflection of this often heightens this effect), but I intentionally created something so small it can be held easily. This project relates to my life because it combines my favorite two things (art and technology) into one idea. Also, I have wanted to make a project based around this idea for a long time. Although I like how it is currently, I am going to do the following before I submit the final version:
There are some things that I can't change at this point:
