For concentration number 4, I created a tree with roots similarly to concentration number 1. I made this using Sketch-up to create the base. Sketch-up is a 3D program focused on architecture. Then, with a solid base, I sculpted the tree and it's roots using mesh mixer, which is designed for artists, but is challenging to use for precision. Then, I printed it out using 3D printing filament. I choose to create this specific artwork because I wanted to represent how although roots are often invisible, they exist just as big as the tree itself under the earth. I used form to show texture and space. I wanted to use the roots to create balance. For color, I decided to use a neutral blue, which I can paint easily if I want, and I painted it using acrylic paint.
I used formal balance both vertically and horizontally. Because it is a 3 dimensional artwork piece, the horizon line can be either high or low depending on how it is held/displayed. My project started as an idea. Then I tried to use mesh mixer, but it did not work because it is not good with precise forms. After that, I created a design using sketch-up which was similar to my first concentration. Later, I moved it to mesh mixer where I added the tree and it's roots. I wanted to represent the fact that the flat layer is supposed to be the ground, so I added hills. This also added a bit of scale, which made the tree look bigger. Then, I added color.
The meaning behind the artwork is that there is a lot in nature under the surface; it's either invisible, or it's hidden unless you look for it. My project relates to my life because I really love nature, and it is at risk because of corporations and people's littering. Although I am mostly happy with how well this turned out there are several things I wish I could change:
