Sustained Investigation #5

Glass Half Empty

The story behind my artwork is the girl is sitting on an inner tube in a half-full/half-empty glass of water. In the background, there are yellow and red inner tubes. The girl, along with the areas around her, are black and white, which are sharply contrasted by the bright blue, yellow, and red colors in the rest of the drawing. Additionally, half of the background is mostly empty and it holds the words: "half empty." My project relates to my life because it shows a specific type of negativity that can be difficult to avoid. I choose this specific composition/drawing because I wanted to use perspective and try to show extreme depth.

I made this using a Huion GT-191 KAMVAS Drawing Tablet and the art program Krita. I primarily used a textured brush, a smooth brush, and a low opacity blender. I used the textured brush to create her skin. I used a combination of the textured and smooth brush to create glass and the background. And, I used the low opacity blender to give the drawing depth.

I originally tried to make this with gouache, but it did not work out. I primarily used a textured brush, a smooth brush, and a low opacity blender. I used the textured brush to create her skin. I used a combination of the textured and smooth brush to create glass and the background. And, I used the low opacity blender to give the drawing depth.
