Seven members of the Liberty Eylau Varsity Choir competed at Area auditions on January 11th at SFA for a prestigious spot in the Texas All-State Choir. This is an extraordinary achievement that puts students among the top student vocalists in Texas. To put this accomplishment in perspective: out of more than 70,000 high school students who began the audition process this fall, only 1,810 were selected. Omarijuan Hayden placed 3rd chair (tenor) William Day was 1st Alternate (bass)and Natalia Urenda was 1st alternate (alto). Omarijuan will represent Liberty Eylau Independent School District at the TMEA Clinic/Convention, where they'll rehearse and perform with the finest young musicians from across Texas. Congratulations to these students for a job well done. #libertyeylauisd #texasallstatechoir #texasmusicians

“So incredibly proud of the LEHS choir students that competed at UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest today. Twenty-two students participated in the contest and they received twenty-four superior medals. So proud to say that 23 of those medals are headed to state. Thanks so much, Stephanie House for all of your help." *Sheri Pickering/Liberty Eylau Choirs
Omarijuan Hayden, a member of the Liberty-Eylau High School Varsity Choir will perform with the Texas All-State choir in San Antonio, Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Henry B. González Convention Center as part of the 2025 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention.
Omarijuan was chosen for this prestigious honor through a competitive process held this year across the state at District, Region, and Area levels. Omarijuan is a student of Sherri Pickering and sings at school under the direction of Sherri Pickering, and is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, a 20,400+ member organization headquartered in Austin. This is Omarijuan’s first time performing as a member of a TMEA All-State organization.
High school students selected to perform in All-State concerts have competed through auditions to qualify at the state level. All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can achieve. Students are selected through a multi-level adjudication process that begins with about 70,000 students from around the state vying for this honor to perform in one of 18 ensembles.
Texas Music Educators Association sponsors the Texas All-State competition. This competitive process begins throughout the state in auditions hosted by 33 TMEA Regions. Individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. From this ranking, a select group of musicians advances from their Region to compete against musicians from other areas in eight TMEA Area competitions. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualify to perform in a TMEA All-State music group. Only the top 2.6% of musicians who initially audition become All-State musicians.
Directed by nationally recognized conductors, All-State students participate in four days of rehearsals during the TMEA Clinic/Convention. Their performances for thousands of attendees bring this extraordinary event to a close. LEHS choir students spent time at our Early Childhood Center recently as they promoted their upcoming Disney production.
The students enjoyed getting to visit with their favorite Disney characters.
