UIL Play 2021 Advances

In this brilliant and powerful drama set in 1964, Sister Aloysius, a Bronx school principal, takes matters into her own hands when she suspects the young Father Flynn of a terrible crime. This play by John Patrick Shanley dramatizes issues straight from today’s headlines.

Winning at District

Last year, schools shut down the week after we had finished our One Act Play production of The Book of Everything. My students and I were so excited to learn that UIL would continue its One Act Play competition this year. It's been an especially challenging year, but my students have taken it all in stride and worked so hard to create a production that we could all be proud of.

Doubt is a fantastic play. The actors have been able to really dig in and make interesting choices with these characters and the technicians have worked diligently to make sure that the show runs smoothly. Advancing to the Bi-District level was such a joy. We've received four acting awards and two technical awards along the way. It's been a terrific UIL season for my students!

This year, despite unwilling circumstances, we have made history once again. In 2018, we advanced to Bi-District for the first time in our current teacher's career. This year, under limited and protocoled practices we have still beat the odds.

At District UIL One Act Play, we placed third overall with the following results:

Co- Stage Manager Hannah Cockrell was awarded Outstanding Technician.

Taizon Walker, was awarded Honorable Mention All-Star Cast.

Caleb Neal was awarded All-Star Cast.

When competing at Bi-District, we were awarded fifth overall. Caleb Neal and Olivia O’Rand took home medals for Honorable Mention. Hannah Cockrell took home another Outstanding Technician Award. Though our play’s journey ends here, we wish all other advancing schools good luck.
