Johnny Pate is a new Algebra 2 teacher for Liberty-Eylau High School and his classes involve models with application. Mr. Pate's room is located on the west campus/room 13 and this will be his 14th year in teaching. He went to high school in Desoto, Texas and he expanded his education at Thomas Edison State University and Stephen F. Austin University. When he was in his mid-twenty’s, he was encouraged by his wife to enter the teaching field. Mr. Pate majored in Nuclear Engineering Technologies, and received a Master's degree in Educational Leadership. In his free time, he enjoys family trips outdoors such as camping, hiking, fishing, and cave touring. He last taught at Avery ISD as their high school math teacher for all courses. “Avery is a small district with very limited staff and resources.” he said. “The community is very supportive of its school-which I imagine is much like Liberty-Eylau. The best aspect about LEHS is the staff. The co-workers are very quick to offer help to new employees in this district. Mrs. Julie Byrd has been the most help to Mr. Pate. He adds: “I am greatly appreciative of the support you all have given me, and I look forward to a great year with my students. I am here to help out in any way I can.”
Mr. Howell is the newest member of the Career & Technology Department and his classroom is located on the east campus in the CTE building. Howell instructs students in Welding and Practicum in Manufacturing. His classroom is 303, yet the actual welding takes place in the shops, which is also located in the CTE facility. Howell is a Liberty-Eylau ISD graduate and this is his first year of teaching. He received a degree from Texarkana College where he majored in Business & Accounting. Howell has never officially had the title of teacher, yet he has spent thirty-plus years instructing, advising and guiding individuals regarding welding procedures and processing through technical sales. He also has taught multiple lessons in safety and proper operations of different types of welding in the local area. Howell offers his personal comments on becoming a part of the leopard family, “Liberty Eylau is what I call home. I attended Liberty-Eylau from Kindergarten through High School and have lived in the Liberty Eylau School district all my life. I currently reside on Stone Road and have been there since 1985. My hope is to share past experiences and make a difference in the lives of young people.”Howell has received a lot of support from fellow staff members as he adjusts to life at a high school. Automotive Instructor Rodney Fellers and Principal Mrs. Linda Block have been his 'go-to' people since school began. Mr. Howell sums it up nicely, “Our children are our messengers into the future. I just hope to provide them with a few skill sets that will help them become a little more prepared for their next step in life. I want to teach them to believe in themselves and to never underestimate the impossible.” Quote by John Wayne: “Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway.”
Terry Alexander's office is located on west campus and he is Liberty Eylau High School’s newest assistant principal. This is his twelfth year in education and he attended high school in Huntsville, Texas. Mr. Alexander attended Sam Houston University and Texas A&M in Texarkana, majoring in Education, History, and Educational Leadership. Mr. Alexander became involved in the education field when he was in his mid twenties. In his leisure time, he likes to spend time with his children, travel, and watching the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros. Before coming to LEHS, Alexander taught at Jefferson High School, which is not that far from LE. He feels he is at home at LE and the other principals have helped him to become a great addition to the school. Mr. Alexander believes that interaction with the students is a great way to make someone’s day. "I know this year will be a great one."- Terry Alexander
Chef Alicia Prater is located in room 308 in the CTE building and she teaches Intro to Culinary Arts, Principles of Hospitality & Tourism, and Dual Credit Culinary Arts. This year will be her eighth year of teaching and is looking forward to continuing her educational career at Liberty-Eylau. Mrs. Prater went to Hope High School and afterwards, she attended University of Central Arkansas, Texarkana College, and Texas A&M of Texarkana, majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences, Culinary Arts, and Interdisciplinary Studies. The thought of becoming a teacher occurred to Chef Prater at an early age, and in her free time, she maintains her catering business and food truck. For her hobbies and family time, she enjoys spending weekends with her husband and their motorcycle club family and riding horses. Before teaching at LEHS, Mrs. Prater taught at Texarkana College/Federal Correctional Institution- Texarkana. Instructing students at LEHS in the newly constructed cooking facility in the CTE building is exciting and she plans on instilling an appreciation for the Culinary program. "I want my students to understand it takes time and knowledge to become a professional." Fellow teachers are always willing to help whenever there is a need in her department. “Learn how to cook. Fallon Howard is Liberty Eylau High School’s newest geometry teacher- her room is on East Campus, room 106. This is her first year teaching, and she has aspired to be a teacher since she was in 2nd grade. Miss Howard attended Pleasant Grove High School and she graduated from Texarkana College and Texas A&M-Texarkana with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies EC-6. In her free time, she likes spending time outdoors, along with camping and fishing. She loves to travel to new places and make memories with her two sons. Miss Howard was brought to Liberty Eylau because of the amazing people in the community. Her favorite aspect of Liberty Eylau High School is the amazing students. Mrs. Emily Hinton has helped Miss Howard out the most during this school year by being an incredibly helpful and sweet co-worker. "I can’t wait to watch the students grow and learn and is excited to be a part to be a part of the LE family!
Jeff Womack teaches Geometry and Algebra and his classroom is located on the east campus/room 106. This is his first year to teach and he is excited to begin his career with our district.
Womack attended high school at Pleasant Grove and received his bachelor’s degree from Texas A & M-Texarkana, majoring in accounting.
He enjoys video gaming in his spare time and watching professional sports on television with his family.

Carlos Simmons is new to our district and spends his time between the middle and high school, facilitating with PE classes and ISS instruction. As a 3rd year teacher, he comes to us from the Atlanta school district. Since Simmons attended grade school at Liberty-Eylau and Atlanta, he considers LE his second home and plans on making great contributions in our community. He attended college at Texas A & M University-Texarkana and received his Bachelor in Applied Arts/Sciences. Simmons enjoys watching college football, track & field, and spending time with his mother. The coaching staff has been very supportive of Simmons from day one and he says he is enjoying himself each day as he works with our students. “So far I have truly enjoyed being a Leopard. The Spanish department gained a new instructor this year! Cesar Vela comes to us from Texarkana ISD; yet, Vela has taught in the Bryan and Floresville school districts in the past. His classroom is located in the art building, room 22 on the west campus. Vela has been in the education field for 12 years and plans on continuing with our district for many more. Mr. Vela attended La Salle High School in Mexico and furthered his studies at the Technical Institute in Laguna, Mexico, acquiring a degree in electrical engineering. Vela has known since he was 8 years old that teaching was in his future and desires to enlighten students at our school about his culture and language. In his spare time, Mr. Vela enjoys running, bicycling, going for a walk or camping and working on projects around the house. He appreciates time spent with his son and family and he relaxes by playing chess occasionally. He has found Mrs. Bassett and Mrs. Yarber to be most helpful, very supportive and understanding. “Our children are our messengers into the future.
