Hannah Cockrell/Junior
Hannah has been employed at Walk-ons for approximately five months now and the main reason she chose to work while still in high school was to have money for herself. Hannah balances her classes while working by making sure her supervisor is aware of her school related activities. She realizes there are both positive and negative aspects of working while she is young. Positive side? extra money for necessities. Negative side? working can get somewhat stressful at times, but she really enjoys her job. She is forced to complete her school work before she gets on the clock at the restuarant and that helps keep her grades in check. Hannah realizes that putting money in her bank account teaches her important skills that will help her in life.
Hallie Wilson/Junior
Hallie has worked at Walk-ons for about a year and she got the job to help her mom out. She adjusts her schedule after school is out each day since she gets off each night around 11pm. The positive side of working while attending school? Having a lot of spending money. The negative side? She is always tired. She said to manage working and school she takes a day off whenever she gets tired or stressed out. She does believe that working now will help her remember that she will always be busy and it helps her with time management.
Katelyn Stephens/Junior
Katelyn has been employed with Chili’s Bar and Grill for about four months and she wanted a job to help her parents and have money of her own. The positive side of working while in school? she is able to buy the things she needs for school or for herself. The negative side? Very little free time, but she enjoys her job for the most part. Working while attending high school has taught her how to manage her time and it will prepare her by saving money for college.
Kamdon Glass/Sophomore
Kamdon is currently working at Pizza Hut on 7th street and previously worked at KFC during the school year. He wanted to work because he didn't like sitting at home and he also likes paying for his own things. He prepared each day by doing his school work and then heading to the restaurant. Working while still in school is tiring but that's life.
Brooklyn Dancer/Senior
Brooklyn has worked at Raising Cane's for six months now and she likes having her own money-so a part-time job fits her well. To modify her schedule, she lets her boss know the days that she can work and the days that she can't. She said a positive side to working there is that she can have money while in school to save up and to know that she is going to be secure. The negative side? Sometimes she goes a whole week without a day off from work or school and she knows relaxing is important but she does like her job most of the time. Brooklyn believes that her current job will help her in the future.
Dominant Betts/Senior
Dominant has worked at Sonic for about two and a half years. She has a job because she likes to have her own money. Postive aspect of working? leaving school a little early to get to her job. The negative side is putting up with many attitudes while on the job. Dominant enjoys her job most of the time but it's challenging as the cold weather arrives. She juggles school and work by staying organized and keeping everything on a schedule. Working at Sonic helps her be more responsible and it keeps her life in order.
Amiyah Collins/Senior
Amiyah has worked at Raising Cane's since October and she didnt have a reason for getting a job-she just wanted something to do. Her seniior release option allowed her to try a part-time position and making money was a plus. She said the positive side of working is that she gets out of school early and the negative is that it can be overwhelming. She said she enjoys her job because her pay is great mostly. She does think that her job is preparing her for the future since he is forced to be organized and more strict on herself.
Carrington Warren/Junior
Carrington has worked at Sonic for almost a year and she wanted a job to make money for herself.She leaves school and immediately clocks in at her specific location. The postive side of her job? It keeps her out of trouble and the negative? Money-more money to spend. Carrington says she does enjoy her job and it teaches her how to multi-task. She is preparing for her future by saving her money.
Jaykwon Roberts/Senior
Jaykwon has been working at Walk-Ons for about five months. The reason he wanted to apply for this job was to have his own money. He lets his managers know his school schedule since he is in multiple sports and so far, it has worked out. One positive aspect of having this job is he can provide for himself whenever he needs or wants too. Negative side? Sometimes co-workers don't do their jobs and that can be frustrating. Working at Walk-Ons has taught him how to work harder.
Alaijah Allison/Junior
Alaijah has been working at Burger King for about five months and wanted a job to have her own money to spend on whenever she pleases. She asks her manager to adjust her schedule so she can keep her grades up and still work (having an understanding boss does help!). The positive side of a job is gaining knowledge from her experiences and working allows her to be more independent. The negative side? Sometimes she gets stressed out, mostly due to lack of sleep. Alaijah did say her job has taught her patience--with not only herself, but with her co-workers and the public.
Janiya Mack/Junior
Janiya has been working at Roadhouse for the for a few months now and like everyone else, making money of her own is at the top of her list. Her bosses are great at working around her school schedule and Janiya works as many hours that are available. Positive side? More spending money. The negative side? lack of sleep that goes with the aspect of working during the week. Staying on top of her schoolwork can be challenging but it has helped her prepare for the future and Janiya knows working is all part of life.
Caitlynn Roraff
Caitlynn has been working at Walk-ons for a year and she likes having her own spending money and not needing to ask her parents for extra cash. The positive side? Getting to do something after school instead of going home and being bored. The only negative side to her job is that sometimes she gets tired. She enjoys her job for the most part....even though she feels she's overworked many times, in the end, more tips equals more money. To effectively balance school and work. Caitlynn reminds herself that her mental health comes first and she is strong. Having this job as a server has taught her many things: (a) how to communicate better with the customers, (b) learning not to react bad to certain situations, (c) and she reminds herself to stay positive because you never know what someone else is going through.
Derek Murphy/Junior
Derek has been working at Big Jake's for approximately five months and acquiring some sort of indepedence is his reason for seeking a job while still in school. Learning social skills that will help him in his future is a positive and being tired more than he used to is a negative. The way that he manages his school and work life is by staying up late to complete his assignments.
Adrianne Henderson/Junior
Adrianne has been working at Burger King for the past 5 months and having her own spending money is important to her. The positive side to working at this time in her life is developing better communication skills. The only negative side to it is the lack of sleep. The way she balances work and school is by taking it slow and not over-exerting herself. Being a loyal Burger King employee is preparing her for the future by learning customer service skills.
Jewellisa Scott/Junior
Jewellisa has been working at Sonic since November of 2021 and the reason she wanted this job was to help her mother pay the bills. The positive side of working at Sonic is she gets to learn about the business while making money for herself. The negative side of having this job is that she is always tired. She does enjoys her job for the most part and manages her school/work life is by going with the flow of things. Working at Sonic has taught her valuable social skills.
Dazene Bell/ Senior
Dazene has been working at Walmart for 4-5 months and now has the ability to help her family out financially. She makes sure to ask for hours that accommodate her school schedule and so far, her supervisors are good with that. Positive side of this job? Ability to balance work/school, associating with the customers and making money. The negative side? The lack of sleep. Dazene does enjoy her job and it has definitely prepared her for the future.
Aubryana Henderson/Junior
Aubryana has been working at Raising Cane's for about ten months-she wanted to make her own money, so she applied to work there. Modifying her work schedule to fit her classes has been a challenge, but like other teenagers who are employed, this is all part of working. On the positive side, having a job helps students practice their much needed social skills. There are no negative sides to her job! Aubryana enjoys working since it gives her opportunties to manage her time and prepares her for a better job in the future.
Raven Fagan/Junior
Raven has been working at Burger King since November of 2021 and like most students, having her own spending money is why she began working. The positive side of working is meeting new people and spending time with her co-workers. The negative side is dealing with the rude customers but she understands that working in the fast food industry has its challenges. Raven plans on saving money for college so her future can be great!
Isley Hubbard/Junior
Isley has been working at Chicken Express for about five months and paying her phone bill herself was the main reason for choosing to work while still in school. She is in the DECA program, which allows her to work and leave school earlier than most students. The positive side of her work life is making money, learning experiences, and connections. The negative side of the job is dealing with the lack of sleep. Working at Chicken Express has helped her for the future by teaching her how to schedule, order, develop social skills, and learning to communicate effectively.
Gabriella Gonzalez/Junior
Gabriella has been working at Red River Credit Union for over 4 months now and is the student teller at the kiosk in the media center. She doesn't like to depend on anyone for money and prefers to save whatever she can each month. The positive side of having this job? It prepares her for her adult life and helps her get ready for college. The negative side? She puts in a lot of hours and doesn't have the time for chores when she gets home. Overall, she does enjoy her job because her co-workers make everything fun and they are like family. Being a RRFCU teller has helped her to prepare for other jobs and teaches her how to manage her money.
