My Summer

This summer I was granted the opportunity to go to Hawaii with my grandmother, aunt, and first cousin on my dad’s side of the family. We stayed on the island of Kona for 9 days. This mini island was not close to the volcano. This trip was a girl's trip that the four of us took just because. During the trip we went to a luau and saw a traditional Polynesian dance, and enjoyed the native people as well. My favorite part was going to the Kona coffee shop where they sell the native coffee beans and coffee grounds. This coffee ranged from $50 for a large bag, $27 for a medium bag, and $7 for a small bag. The food is really expensive due to the people of Hawaii having to import all of the fruits and veggies for their stores. When you leave, they check your bag to make sure you only take back certain things to the mainland. There are items that are special to the island and the native people want it to stay on the island, so you cannot take it home with you. This trip was very fun and relaxing and I truly enjoyed myself.
During the summer I also had the privilege to go to Boston, Massachusetts for the Congress of Future Medical Leaders. The Congress was held at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, Massachusetts. I was able to hear many speakers who were very informative. I saw many doctors from many colleges and medical programs. This congress had over 10,000 people including delegates and parents, and I had an opportunity to make two new great friends. I still keep in contact with them to this day and we text each other. I really enjoyed learning about Congress and I am so grateful for the opportunity that I was given. I hope I get to go back next year and participate.
