CSI: Beyond the Traditional Science Lab
Title: Changing the Face of the Traditional Lab
Room 203
Presenter: Ben Smith
Description:
Probes are a great way for students to collect data. What happens next? We use a variety of digital tools to enhance lab reports and student projects. Traditional lab reports consist of typed or hand-written documentation of data, results and analysis of laboratory investigations. Participants will learn how to use emergent technologies with students that make laboratory analysis and delivery of results more meaningful through enhancing their communication skills and working collaboratively with their peers. We will then share sample projects including the exemplary work of students.
Audience:
3-12 Science but lots of applications to other classes
Devices:
All
Outline of Presentation:
We will do a model lab activity from the pre-reading to final lab report.

Activity 3 - Designing the Experiment and Taking Data
Design an activity that determines the impact of increasing coffee filters on free fall and air resistance.
Analyzing the Data
- Examine the Graph
- Discuss in your group
• What did you do?
• What does the data tell us?
• What would be next steps?
Summary Activity
- Make a video telling your story - what you did, what you found out and how you know this
