Each New Year is an exciting opportunity for a fresh start, which is why many people look forward to New Year’s Eve so much.
As the new year approaches, many people choose to make New Year’s Resolutions.
New Year’s Resolutions are made to resolve good practices, change an undesired trait or behavior, accomplish a personal goal, or otherwise improve their life at the start of a new year.
Carly Johnson (10) believes a New Year’s Resolution is “to find something in your life you're unsatisfied with and attempt to change it through a simple, easy statement.”
“The purpose of setting a New Year's resolution is to get a fresh start on something. You may feel that some things in your life need work on, but you hate starting right in the middle of things. Setting a New Year's resolution gives you a date to start fresh and a whole year to achieve your goal. A new year is starting so why not start fresh on other things too,” Rowen Swift (9) said.
Daniel DeSersa (9) believes a resolution is “to try to change something you feel like should be a change.”
EmmahLeigh Cass (11) believes the purpose of a New Year’s Resolution is, “to relate the idea of a new year to a "new you".
According to a poll given to SBHS students, 50% of them made New Year’s Resolutions for the year 2021 and 50% of them did not.
Out of the 50% who set a goal, the majority of them want to improve grades or improve health.
Reflecting upon last year’s resolutions, 57% of SBHS students set a New Year’s Resolution for the year, while 43% did not.
73% did not stick to their 2020 resolutions and 27% did.
As 2020 waves goodbye, we say hello to 2021 with hope for a better year.
