Stop, Play in Snow
by Rachel Earl, staff
Call it what you will, Christmas break, holiday recess, winter vacation or simply liberation, the two-week release from the public education system for most SBHS students is a God send.
Since August youth have been standing, stockings at the ready, for some of this sweet release.
Not to be compared to summer vacation in the slightest, winter break is just a taste of much needed freedom for most. While the entire point of this time is to take a break from studies, some students will probably be using this opportunity to get ahead of the game. These students, although admirable, miss out on a lot of holiday fun and will come back to school January 6 not necessarily refreshed, but may be even more depleted than the regular high schooler.
Of course, life force expenditure is 100% avoidable if the utmost care is taken. The first step to successfully replenishing said lifeforce is relaxation.
It is impossible to instruct any one person on the correct way to relax, but the options are literally limitless. Long sudsy baths, for instance, although refreshing, are not everyone’s cup of tea.
A cup of tea, also refreshing, may not be everyone’s cup of tea. It is important not to spend too much time worrying about how to relax, because this directly suctions the ability to actually relax.
Some festive options might be singing or listening to holiday tunes, baking, decorating home or place of employment if one hasn’t managed to escape it, or (this one’s popular with young people) spending the day flipping through the Christmas movies on Netflix or Hulu.
All jokes aside, whatever you do this holiday season please do it responsibly. Don’t drink and drive and all that, make good decisions.
But more importantly, when your great aunt Gertrude gives you another hand knit sweater the color of your dogs puke, wear it because it’s polite.
Happy holidays! Have a good one!
