Aubrey Bonnichsen would have celebrated another birthday on December 15, but her life was cut short because of Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma on February 18, 2010. Some of the characteristics Aubrey is best known for include:
Smile -- Aubrey’s smile lit up the world and inspired everyone around her who could not help but smile when she did.
Creativity -- Artistically talented, Aubrey would draw and write about whatever came to mind.
Sportsmanship -- For the way she always played fairly to everyone, Aubrey demonstrated great gamesmanship.
Respect for self and others - Aubrey was always helping other people, offering due consideration.
Independence - She wasn’t scared to tackle challenges on her own; she remained true to self.
Bravery - Aubrey fought long and hard enduring pain and kept her beautiful smile
Intelligence - Aubrey was always reading books on historic events
Fun to be around - She often made jokes, entertaining friends, family and neighbors with her wit.
Unique - Aubrey wouldn’t follow a crowd; she remained true to herself.
Inspirational - She made people want to take on challenges they felt they otherwise could not.
Willing Heart - Although Aubrey suffered, she was always more concerned for other people than herself.
Compassionate - She loved everyone she met and never abandoned them for something “greater.”
Selfless - Aubrey wouldn’t keep items to herself, preferring to share with other people.
Inquisitive - She was always thinking of questions for topics she wanted to learn about.
Imaginative - Her creativity was only surpassed by her imagination because she never stopped thinking about concepts that didn’t exist, making them seem real.
“Artist, unique and colorful. She wasn’t like other girls her age of 14-15. Girls that age are terrified and worried about their looks, always obsessed about boys and makeup and things, but she was different. She didn’t care what people thought of her, she didn’t worry about her looks, makeup, or boys and that makes her very hard to find but in a way, everyone made fun of her and most girls her age would turn to emo or killing themselves, but she turned to God and drawing she was increasingly special,” committee member and friend Mikala Erin said. Her father, Tim Bonnichsen, said, “Aubrey has tolerance, acceptance, she was understanding and she would never give up no matter what.” “She was a person that seems to have a bubbly personality,” Reece Ehrlick (9) said. “She never frowned as far as I knew and just had many friends.”
