STURGIS, SD — It’s a win-win situation when students raffle off items to help fund activities. Such is the case with the Youth Leadership Team (YLT) who are selling raffle tickets and pavers to offset costs for the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) Conference to be held in Washington, D.C., Jan. 31 through Feb. 4. Students attending the conference include sophomores Molly Buchholz and Jacob West, and juniors Danielle Alan, Taylor Erlenbusch, Jordana Shuck and Jerrod Deaver.
Under the guidance of Janice Oleson, YLT members worked together to construct a Scooper T-Shirt quilt and a fleece tie blanket using quilt materials discounted from Fabric Junction.
According to adviser Pam Vinson, “Tickets are 1 for $1.00 or 6 for $5.00. All tickets will be entered in the drawing. One person will win the quilt and one will win the blanket.”
Drawings will be held on Feb. 18, during the boys basketball game.
In addition to the quilt and blanket, YLT is also selling pavers, decorative stones that can be used in gardens or as wished. These custom-made items, by Sturgis Photo and Gifts, need to be pre-ordered and paid for in advance and will be available for purchase through Feb. 18.
To purchase tickets and/or pavers, watch for YLT members and advisers at various activities or stop into Student Services.
Vinson said she would also like to offer a “special thanks to Action for the Betterment of the Community (ABC), Fabric Junction, Janice Oleson and Sturgis Photo and Gifts” for their assistance and support.
