The fifth annual Sturgis Brown High School Career Fair was held last week with approximately 110 people representing 80 business, industry, military and post-secondary institutions in attendance to answer questions from students and share information about their professions.

Approximately 650 students, which included 60 from Newell High School, had an opportunity to explore career opportunities with representatives of the following career clusters: agriculture, architecture and construction; arts and communication; business management and marketing; information technology; law, public safety, corrections and security; manufacturing; science, technology, engineering and math; transportation; education; government; hospitality; health science; human services; and military.

The Career Fair was organized by Coleen Keffeler, career and technical education coordinator at the high school, a host of high school staff members, and Career Fair Advisory Committee members Roxy Chowen, Sturgis Center for the Arts; Alenda Derby, Sturgis Regional Hospital; Lee Erickson, Natural Resources Conservation Service; Darrel Hatzenbuhler, Sturgis Police Department; JoAnn Jackley, community member and retired SBHS instructor; Denise LaRue, First Interstate Bank; Ken Meirose, Black Hills Power; Cheryl Rieniets, VA Black Hills Health Care; Boyce Voorhees, Wells Fargo Bank; Lisa Weyer, Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce; and SBHS counselors Dadra Avery and Michelle Lammers.
