Since the end of the spring semester and throughout the summer, senior John Fritzie Gasper has been working on the creation of the 2014-2015 Mato Paha yearbook, which will include student activities, memorable moments, and familiar faces.

“My inspiration came from my desire to be my own person,” Gasper said. “I wanted a change and to eliminate the same-old-same-old."

This year’s book focuses on the theme “BE.” For example, BE strong, BE fierce, BE courageous, or BE fun.

“The theme,” Gasper said, “means ‘be you, be one-of-a-kind and don’t follow the crowd. My greatest hope is to inspire people to stand away from the crowd and be their own people. I hope that the Mato Paha editors of tomorrow follow suit.”

According to yearbook adviser Tere Froelich, the position of yearbook editor requires dedication, a good worth ethic and desire to expand one’s design skills. “John,” Froelich said, “is definitely a hard worker, which is evident by the time invested in this project.”

Gasper decided to become the 2014-15 yearbook editor because “I love design work and wanted to expand my knowledge by producing a large product that will be circulated.”

The 100-page, full-color, hardbound books will be printed by Walsworth Publishing Company this year and are currently being sold for $35. Prices go up after Christmas. Yearbooks sales will end on Jan. 23.

Gasper's design concept stems from his love of design, which explains the use of CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow) for the thematic color elements.
