The girls U-19 indoor soccer team have had a hard transition from the fall to the indoor season. They’ve had to go from being outside and playing on grass to being inside and playing indoors.

The floors inside are much more slippery and the ball moves faster than out on the grass. The team is also smaller and there are only a total of nine girls on the team, which is a also change since outdoor has a total of 11 players on the field. In indoor there are a total of five, sometimes six, depending on what tournament they are playing in.

In the Spearfish Winter Classic tournament, there were a total of six teams in the silver division the girls participated in. The girls played against the Spearfish Hooligans, the Newcastle Dogies and the Belle Fourche Teen Titans. The girls played tough games and had one sub until a girl got hurt, then they were down to no subs.

“I love the effort that everyone gives out, I wouldn’t trade my team for anything,” Cassidy Cross (12) said.

They played against the Teen Titans again. Very tired, the girls managed to push through and they got second place in the tournament.

“I am super proud of how we have become very close and the skills that we have shown together as a team,” Carly Alisero (12) said.
