Taking first place at the Knowledge Bowl tournament held at SBHS, back: Chandler Wilson (12), Ryan Wilen(11), Michael Janovy (12), front: Tanner VanSickle (12), Bridger Gordon (11) and Danika Gordon (9) practiced an hour to an hour and a half each week to prepare for the event.
STURGIS, S.D. -- Competing in a meet on their home turf, the SBHS Knowledge Bowl varsity team worked together in order to take first place.
Participants at the Sept. 24 meet competed against high school varsity teams from Douglas, St. Thomas Moore, Spearfish, Belle Fourche and Upton, WY.
According to adviser Jean Karsten, “Knowledge Bowl consists of answering questions, written and oral, that have to do with all types of information from Ancient Civilizations to Events happening in the world in 2016.”
Knowledge Bowl practice began the first week of school.
“Usually practice runs an hour to an hour and a half. We use past questions to review, Kahoots and online QuizBowl questions,” Karsten said. “This is one of the best team the high school has had and we look forward to regionals.”
If they do well at the four fall competitions, the team comprised of Tanner VanSickle (12), Bridger Gordon (11), Danika Gordon (9), Chandler Wilson (12), Ryan Wilen (11) and Michael Janovy (12) may qualify for Regionals, which will be held Nov. 5 at Central High School, Rapid City.
