I am excited to have the opportunity to boast about our performance here at Sturgis Brown High School. In April last year, I challenged our junior students to out-perform our neighboring AA schools on the DakotaStep test. We met our goal and scored better than Rapid City Central and Stevens in all areas. The last time we made the mark in math and reading was the 2003-2004 school year.
Our students should be extremely proud of themselves for their efforts. The teachers have worked tremendously hard over the last several years preparing our students. We have made significant efforts creating projects designed to create rigor and relevance, which also develops relationships.
Rigor, relevance and developing relationships continue to be our theme at the high school. Despite budget cuts and funding shortfalls, we continue to move our school forward and become better. This is a testament to the kind of commitment that comes from the community and family that is our school.
I tell students frequently that we cannot control luck, one’s own genetics or the difficulty of a task; however, we are always in control of our effort.
I salute our students and teachers for superior effort! Go, Scoopers!
