On November 2, Black Hills State University hosted the very first math circle in this region called the Black Hills Math Circle.
The main idea behind the BHMC is to explore different ideas students have seen and or not seen before.
Meetings are mostly used to discuss math problems and then to practice those problems through the week. Instructors Professor Michael Barrus, Dr. Parthasarathi Nag, Micheline Nelson and John Alsup take turns going over each idea.
During the first scheduled math circle, students and teachers from various schools learned how to apply math to see if there was some ultimate winning strategy in two-player games.
Upcoming BHMC meetings will be held on the BHSU campus as follows:
December 3 and 12 in Jonas 202
January 21 in Jonas 204
February 4 and 18 in Jonas 204
March 19 and 31 in Jonas 204
April 16 and 28 in Jonas 204
May 5 in Jonas 204
