On Sept. 25 the biology classes of Instructors Vicki Huck and Steve Keszler went on a field trip to Reptile Gardens and to Bear Country where they saw real life examples of the characteristics and adaptations of animals and their interactions in their environment. Approximately 75 students went on the trip. Only students with a C- or better were allowed to go on the trip.

The students answered questions related to the snake show,

“We saw some wild animal behavior when the man speaking at the show got bitten on the face by a snake,” Huck said.

The students also went to see the alligator show, and the animals and plants outside, and the animals and plants in the dome.

After Reptile Gardens, the group went to Bear Country. As they drove through the site, they saw a variety of different animals and learned how the critters survived in their environments, answering related questions.

”Two black bears wrestled right alongside a car in front of us for ten minutes, and when we drove by the mountain lions, three lions were perched high in the limbs of a barren tree, staring intently at us,” Huck said. “Think about the next time you go on a hike through the Black Hills.”
