Purpose
Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is to establish the minimum requirements for setting up the Auto Starting Page on Gas Engine Drive units in the LOGIX control panel. The procedure applies to all Gas Engine Drive LOGIX panels equipped with the Auto Starting feature option. This procedure is to ensure the proper set up of the Gas Engine Drive Auto Starting Page to ensure full PLC control of Auto Start functions in the LOGIX panel as laid out in this procedure.

This procedure applies to all Gas Engine Drive units that are equipped with the LOGIX panel that has the Auto Starting Page Mode option currently in service in the Field, Test Loop, at a Repair Shop, or in Storage Yards. Flogistix Service Technicians will perform the set up of the Auto Starting Feature in the LOGIX panel as laid out in this procedure according to this procedure.
Before any work is performed a JSA needs to be done according to Flogistix procedure along with any Customer requirements before any work is started.
When selecting the Auto Start feature there are many options that determine when the PLC will know when to automatically restart the engine. The Auto Start feature can be set up to Auto Start the unit after a shutdown for complex sequences such as:
High Discharge Pressure Auto Restart:
Low Discharge Pressure Auto Restart:
Low Suction Pressure Auto Restart:
Low Tank Vapor Pressure Auto Restart:
High Inlet Scrubber Level Auto Restart:
Low Compressor Oil Auto Restart:
Remote SCADA Shutdown/Auto Start/Hard Kill:
To set up the Auto Loading Mode settings in the LOGIX panel you must first be logged into the LOGIX panel under an Mechanic Level or higher
To set up the Auto Loading functions: From the Home Page at the bottom of the page touch the Settings Button , at the Settings Page touch the Auto Starting Page, that will be at the top of the Settings Page.

At the Auto Start Screen page starting at the top of the page the yellow columns on the right side indicate the Auto Start setpoints.
High Discharge Pressure Auto Start:.
Start by selecting the High Discharge Pressure that you want the unit to restart at.
This defines a window of acceptable Discharge pressure below the high shutdown set point pressure for restarting
Auto Starts if Discharge Pressure is < (less) than the pressure designated in the yellow box.
Then enter the desired Max Discharge Pressure that you want the compressor unit to start slowing down at. (As shown in the example below) This setting should be less than the kill setting entered from the Home page.
Low Discharge Pressure Auto Restart:
This defines a window of acceptable Discharge pressure above the low shutdown set point pressure for restarting
Auto Starts if Discharge Pressure is > (greater) than the pressure designated in the yellow box
** Low Discharge Pressure setting to restart needs to be a greater pressure than what the Suction Pressure is while the unit is running normally.
Low Suction Pressure Auto Restart
This defines a window of acceptable Suction pressure above the low shutdown set point pressure for restarting, this is only available if the looking on the Home Screen and is set to Auto control mode
Auto Starts if Suction Pressure is > (greater) than the pressure designated in the yellow box
When set to Auto mode the Low Tank Vapor Pressure Auto Start boxes will be in Blue
Low Tank Vapor Pressure Auto Restart:
This defines a window of acceptable Tank Vapor pressure above the low shutdown set point pressure for restarting, this option only available in VRU mode. When set to VRU mode the Low Suction Pressure Auto Start boxes will be in Blue.
Auto Starts if Tank Vapor Pressure is > (greater) than the pressure designated in the yellow box
Remember that if the panel is set for VRU mode that the Low pressure set point (Fault setpoint) on the Suction pressure needs to be turned On. Even though the Suction Pressure is in Blue when in VRU mode, the set points (Faults) can still be active and need to be activated.
**If not activated the unit could go into a deep vacuum and cause O2 introduction or damage to production equipment.
High Scrubber Level Auto Restart:
This option will allow the unit to restart after a High Scrubber Level Shutdown. High Scrubber Level Auto Start, normally select this to the ON position.
The time delay needs to be set to allow the unit to be able to restart after the High Scrubber Level shutdown has cleared.
The amount of seconds needs to be determined in the box to the right of the ON/OFF selector switch from the operating conditions at the location of the unit.
Low Compressor Oil Auto Restart:
This option allows for the unit to be restarted after a Low Compressor Oil shutdown. This is normally used in cases where there may be a Compressor oil foaming issue.
This needs to be set to the Off position unless approved to be turned on by the Area Manager or Flogistix Engineering.
Remote SCADA Shutdown Auto Start:
This is an option for remote starting from an outside telemetry source.
This is used for special applications only.
Leave this set to the Off position unless approved by the Area Manager or Flogistix Engineering.
Discharge Press Blow Down Valve.
Blowdown Switch:
This is an option that allows the PLC after a shutdown to lower the internal discharge pressure of the unit by blowing down the unit to a desired set pressure for ease to the starter when restarting.
By setting this the PLC will not engage the engine starter until the desired set pressure has been achieved.
Discharge Press Blown Valve
Set this to the On position to activate the Blowdown Switch option.
Then set the desired Blowdown Set Point
Next select the Start Attempts button in the top left corner of the Auto Start page
Start Attempts
Max Number of Auto-start Attempts Default should be 5 attempts.
Auto-start Count Reset Timer: Default should 300 sec.
Auto Starts Exceeded Fault Clearing/Reattempt Timer: Default is 60 minutes
In this example the Auto Start Exceeded Fault Clearing Timer was changed to 120 minutes.

EHSS - Responsible to assist in the implementation of this procedure and to review for effectiveness.
Employees, Contractors, Vendors, ETC. - Are responsible to follow the requirements outlined in this procedure and ask for assistance

This procedure applies to all Flogistix Gas Engine Drive compressor units equipped with a LOGIX control panel with the Auto Starting feature option and are applicable to all Flogistix employees, contractors, and temporary employees.
Hazards
Hazards
Employees should be aware that units could contain flammable and toxic gasses. Potential for the possible hazards of gas ignition or fire, hot surfaces & fluids, rotating equipment. Risk of possible concentration of H2S. Hazardous gases could be in the units pressure vessels, cooler, or associated piping and risk of inhalation of hazardous gas fumes.
Safety
Safety
All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for normal Field Mechanical duties apply for this procedure.
Four Gas Monitor, which is outlined in the Flogistix EHSS Manual, PPE Section 8, Procedure 8.3
This procedure applies to all units in service in the field, at a service shop, or in any storage yard.
Insure Flogistix personnel have proper safety certification or site orientation if required by the Flogistix Customer.
Insure Flogistix personnel adhere to all Customers safety practices.
Training
Training
All employees shall be initially trained on the following topics:
Employee Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedure according to Flogistix policy
Emergency and First Aid procedures
Methods and Observations that may be used to detect the presence or release of a hazardous chemicals or gas in the work place
Basic LOGIX panel training
Tools & Equipment Required
