This procedure is complete waiting on Field Service, Engineering, and EHSS approval
The purpose of this procedure is to establish the minimum requirements for checking the shutdown devices on Flogistix LOGIX panels and Murphy style panels that are monitoring compressor skids while being unattended to prevent possible failures or damage to the engine, compressor, cooling fan, process piping on the skid, or process piping around compressor package.
This procedure applies to all Flogistix units that are in service at a field location or that is located at a service facility where the compressor unit will be left unattended.
Flogistix Service Technicians will perform the task of checking required shutdown devices according to the type application the compressor package is set to operate at. This procedure will be performed prior to new start ups, during preventative maintenance, or while running compressor units at field service locations or on test loops.
Before any work is performed a JSA needs to be done according to Flogistix procedure along with any Customer requirements before any work is started.
All shut down set points must be activated and operable when the compressor package is left unattended. Any shutdown set point or shut down device must be activated or operable. If any shutdown set point or device is not operable permission must be given by the Flogistix Area manager or Flogistix Engineering to continue to operate the compressor package unattended.
LOGIX Panels
LOGIX panel set points must have the shutdowns activated by turning them to the ON position.
Below is an example of the Suction Pressure shutdown box that shows up after touching the Yellow box indicating Suction Pressure on the Home screen of the LOGIX panel. Once the Yellow box is touched the Suction_Press_SD box will appear. This can be done if either logged into or not logged into the LOGIX panel.
As in the example above (example is of an Electric Drive LOGIX panel) the arrows indicate that both the High Suction Pressure and the Low Suction Pressure is turned ON.
To verify other shutdowns are turned on, touch the other yellow boxes on the home screen and verify they are turned to the ON position
To verify other shutdown devices are activated that are not listed on the Home page go to the Settings page at the bottom of the Home page
Once at the Setting page touch the Digital Page
At the Digital Shutdown page check to make sure the Digital Shutdowns are turned on.
Murphy Type Panels
Murphy panels equipped with gauges with adjustable set points must have the indicator pin adjusted so that when the pressure gets to the desired pressure either high or low depending on the application a shutdown will occur, the gauge will send a signal to the Murphy Annunciator or Tattletale to shut the compressor unit down
Testing a Murphy switchgage:
With equipment running, use a 1/6" hex wrench to rotate contact until it touches the pointer.
See example below:
Do Not force contact against the gage pointer.
Equipment should shutdown and/or alarm operate indicating shut down is operable.
This procedure applies to all Flogistix compressor units and is applicable to all Flogistix employees, contractors, and temporary employees.
Employees need to be aware of the possibility of extremely hot exhaust pipe surfaces, potential exposure and the inhalation of engine exhaust. Employees should be aware that units could contain flammable and toxic gasses. Potential for the possible hazards of gas ignition or fire, hot surfaces & fluids, rotating equipment. Risk of possible concentration of H2S. Hazardous gases could be in the units pressure vessels, cooler, or associated piping and risk of inhalation of hazardous gas fumes.
Management - Management is responsible for implementing, supporting, and enforcing the requirements of this procedure to their respective locations/area.
EHSS - Responsible to assist in the implementation of this procedure and to review for effectiveness.
Employees, Contractors, Vendors, ETC. - Are responsible to follow the follow the requirements outlined in this procedure and ask for assistance
