This Policy is completed and is waiting Field Service, Engineering, & Safety approval.
The purpose of this procedure is to establish the minimum requirements for setting up the Speed Control Mode on Electric Drive units in the LOGIX control panel. The procedure applies to all Elrctric Drive LOGIX panels equipped with the Speed Control Mode option. This procedure is to ensure the proper set up of the Speed Control Mode to ensure full PLC control of RPM in the LOGIX panel as laid out in this procedure.
This procedure applies to all Electric Drive units that are equipped with the LOGIX panel that has the Speed Control Mode option currently in service in the Field, Test Loop, at a Repair Shop, or in Storage Yards. Flogistix Service Technicians will perform the set up of the Speed Control Mode in the LOGIX panel as laid out in this procedure according to this procedure.
Before any work is performed a JSA needs to be done according to Flogistix procedure along with any Customer requirements before any work is started.
To set up the Speed Control Mode settings in the LOGIX panel you must first be logged into the LOGIX panel under an Mechanic Level or higher
To properly set up the panel to correctly control motor RPM start at the Home Screen of the LOGIX panel. In the Home Screen you will need to select the type of control desired by the PLC.
This is done by selecting selecting either the Main Motor Speed Operation Mode button or the Main Motor Control Speed Button.
As in the example above boxes are in Manual for Main Motor Speed Operation Mode and Idle in the Main Motor Control Speed Mode
After touching either the Main Motor Speed Operation Mode button or the Main Motor Control Speed Button, the Operation-Mode-Page will appear.
The Settings for the four options of Main Motor Speed, Main Motor Speed Operation Mode, Loading Valve Operation Mode, and Suction Eq. Valve Operation Mode will need to be set
Main Motor Control Speed – There are three choices Idle, Setpoint, or Max. This is the Motor RPM set point that the electric motor will run at.
If selecting Idle as in the example above the unit will only run at Idle RPM where the Minimum RPM is set at in the PLC on the Machine Specific page.
If selecting Setpoint the unit will control from the Idle RPM setpoint in the PLC to where the RPM speed is set at in the Main Motor Speed SP. box indicated by the red arrow. As in this example the PLC will control from minimum Idle RPM as set in the PLC to 2200 RPM as set in the Main Motor Speed SP. box.
Selecting Setpoint can also be used if you want to limit how high the RPM of the unit will run at for specific well conditions.
Main Motor Control Speed – As in the example below if selecting MAX, the unit will control RPM from where the Minimum RPM is set in the PLC up to the Maximum RPM setpoint in the PLC.
This is the desired setting for full PLC control of RPM when Main Motor Speed Operation Mode is set at every Mode except when set in Manual
As in this example the PLC will run to max RPM even though the Main Motor Speed SP box is set 2100 RPM
Main Motor Speed Operation Mode - There are multiple choices in the Engine Speed Mode - Manual, Auto, VRU, Multi-Stream, Dis Press.
In the Main Motor Speed Operation Mode the PLC controls motor speed with no Dead Bands. If the operating pressures are above or below the target pressure the PLC will change RPM.
As in the example above when set in Manual there will be no PLC speed control, it will only run unit RPM at Idle, Setpoint or Max. from the Main Motor Control Speed option box.
As in the example above when set in Auto - The PLC controls RPM off of the Suction pressure from the transmitter on the Inlet vessel of the unit. The PLC will control RPM to try to control Suction Pressure target setpoint from Auto Load Page at the ranges set from Idle, Setpoint or Max from the Main Motor Control Speed.
As in the example above when set in VRU setting the PLC controls pressure from a remote transmitter that is assigned to the Tank Vapor Pressure in the Analog Setup page. The PLC will control RPM to try to control the Tank Vapor Pressure target setpoint from the Auto Load Page at the ranges of either Idle, Setpoint or Max from the Main Motor Control Speed settings box.
As in the example above when set in Multi Stream setting the PLC controls pressure from two sources the transmitter on the inlet vessel and from a remote transmitter. - The PLC will control RPM to try to control Tank Vapor Pressure and Suction Pressure target setpoint from the Auto Load Page at the ranges of either Idle, Setpoint or Max from the Main Motor Control Speed settings box.
As in the example above when set in Dis. Press. setting - The PLC will control RPM to try to control the Discharge Pressure target setpoint from the Auto Load Page at the ranges set from either Idle, Setpoint or Max from the Main Motor Control Speed settings box.
Loading Valve Mode – There are multiple choices Manual, Auto, VRU,Multi-Stream, Dis. Press. Loading Valve Operation Mode acts basically the same as Main Motor Speed Operation Mode except there are dead bands.
For most cases Main Motor Speed Operation Mode and Loading Valve Operation Mode need to be set with the same Mode setting for all five settings.
Suction Eq Valve Operation Mode – The set positions are Off, Always On, Auto, VRU, Multi Stream.
If set other than Off all Bypass Valve control settings will need to be done on the Suction Equal Valve Page
If set to Always On the Bypass supply pressure to the bypass valve will always be turned On no matter how the other settings are set at in the Operation_Mode_Page modes.
When set to VRU the bypass valve supply pressure will be controlled from the pressure of the remote Transmitter.
When set to Multi Stream the bypass valve supply pressure will be controlled from the inlet pressure and the pressure of the remote Transmitter.
When set to Plunger Lift the bypass valve supply pressure will be controlled from the pressure of the inlet Vessel.
Examples for Auto and VRU Operation Modes
This example below is an example of the desired settings of the Operation Mode screen showing all four of the Modes to achieve full PLC control when in Auto mode to control off of Suction/Inlet pressure of the compressor.
This example below is an example of the desired settings of the Operation Mode screen showing all four of the Modes to achieve full PLC control when in VRU mode to control inlet pressures off of Tank Vapor Pressure or from a remote pressure transmitter.
