Guidelines for Activities & Field Trips

Complete records on all special trips are required. This will include, but are not limited to the date, driver(s), bus(es), school, group or activity, destination, round trip mileage, number of students, and any special problems encountered. It is expected that a detailed, itemized log of all destinations and times be recorded on the reverse side of the bus request run sheet be completed and submitted back to dispatcher at the end of each payroll period.

A chaperon ratio will be expected at 15 students per chaperon. In no case will an activity bus depart without the acceptable ratio of chaperons. Chaperons are to remain on the bus until the last student is dropped off. The bus driver is not a chaperon.

Classroom teachers and activity coaches, are expected to be the initial chaperon(s) or staff member in charge, not volunteers or subordinate personnel.

With activities and fieldtrips, coaches and teachers must be present with their students and as such retain the direct authority over their students and their actions while riding on the bus.

The bus driver is expected to complete all necessary paper work as requested by the Transportation Director and/or dispatcher. Failure to process all necessary paper work may delay payment for services performed.

Activities or Field Trips shall only transport students that are associated with the team or class activity. Relatives, dependent children or friends of the driver or chaperon are not to ride in the bus.

All Activities, Field Trips or specialty travel that involves destinations greater than 150 miles from the school requires board approval. In addition, any out of state travel requires board approval.

Subject to the dispatcher, when returning from away games, field trips or activities, the bus driver at their option (based on current time, weather conditions, etc.), may elect to drop students off at pre-determined locations falling on or close to their routes into the school. These locations must be pre-determined 2 days prior to the bus trip.

Subject to the dispatcher, current BHS return trips from the south will pass through Minersville and drop route #5 or #7 students off at one stop only. (Bill’s Chevron). Stops may be made at Adamsville and Greenville at the driver’s decision based on conditions.

BHS return trips from the north or via U20, student delivery will not be made to Minersville unless requested by the coach and with a chaperon present while students are still on the bus. Trips with “NO RETURN TRIP to MINERSVILLE” must be disclosed to students prior to the bus departing the school for the activity.
