A considerable amount of cost savings can be obtained by properly shutting buildings down during these two prolonged breaks during the cold season. Principals should discuss this with staff members before each break and ensure the staff follows thru. Principals should walk their buildings before they leave for the break.
CLASSROOMS:
1. All computers and electronic devices are shut down and power turned off.
2. In classrooms with sinks and water pipes, cabinet doors should be opened so that warm air can help prevent pipe freezing.
3. All lights should be turned off.
COMPUTER LABS, MEDIA CENTERS, AUDITORIUMS:
1. All computers and electronic devices are shut down and power turned off.
2. DO NOT TURN OFF COMPUTER SERVERS.
CAFETERIAS:
1. All equipment and electronic devices are shut down and power turned off.
2. Cabinet doors should be opened so that warm air can help prevent pipe freezing where possible.
3. Workers should ensure freezers/coolers are working and maintaining proper temperatures.
OTHER AREAS IN THE BUILDING:
1. Custodians and principals should walk the building and turn off all lights, computers, etc. that do not need to be left on during the break.
2. Custodians and principals should ensure cabinet doors that would expose pipes should be left open during the break. This is to help prevent pipes from freezing.
HEAT SYSTEMS:
Just as that done in previous years, John will be lowering the heat to 60 degrees during the break. If someone needs the heat on during the break, please make sure you coordinate with John as quickly as possible--i.e. school activities, private use of the building, etc --THE SOONER THE BETTER. Please look ahead and plan accordingly and keep John in the loop.
Thanks
