CUSTODIAN SNOW REMOVAL & INCLEMENT WEATHER PROTOCOL
PURPOSE & GUIDANCE
Ensure public and student safety is in place at the beginning, during, and close of main operations
Slip and fall accidents are the most common injuries in these situations. Principals and custodians are to focus there efforts on these potential risk areas first.
CHECKLIST:
On heavy snow days, Roger Hatch is assigned to help westside schools (Minversville west)
On heavy snow days, John Kesler is assigned to help eastside schools
Custodian Schedules: School principals establish the expectations for "what if" scenarios:
What time do custodians need to be on site removing snow if snow occurs the night before a school day--i.e. one or two hours before school starts?
What time do custodians need to be on site removing snow if there are public events in the building on weekends?
What communications are necessary to ensure custodians know when they are to be on site removing snow?
Custodian Assignments:
Hi traffic flow areas must be cleared first
Main walk ways
Main parking lots
Building principals should conduct a conference with custodians to ensure they know their assignments for the day.
Address slip and fall areas both inside & outside areas. Principals should direct custodians to use available cones and signs in hazardous areas to warn patrons and students of each hazard:
Cones
Warning signs
Address wet areas inside the building in hallways
Ice melt in specified areas
