Holiday Card with Google

This activity teaches Google Formatting and Sharing docs in a high interest way. Even my Special Education Students enjoyed this activity. It can be done for any occasion, Christmas, New Years, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Kindness Cards, Get Well Cards, etc.


Open up a blank Google Doc

  • Go to google

  • Apps Icon

  • Google Doc

  • Plus sign

  • Blank Document


Give your document a title and press enter


Write Your Text -- Can be Holiday Themed or Generic Greeting, thank you, get well soon, Happy New Year!

  • Ctrl-A to select all text

  • Font Size 60

  • Choose font style - click on more fonts to see more choices!

  • Center your text by choosing the center alignment icon

  • Change Font Color - you can even alternate colors or make rainbows with each letter a different color! Use the letter A icon to choose from the colors.


Add an Image

  • Insert image

  • Search the web

  • Click on image

  • Click insert

  • Resize using corners to keep the aspect ratio

  • If your picture jumps to the next page, you may have to decrease your font size to fit on one page

OR...

  • Open a new tab

  • do a google search

  • find an image

  • put the mouse over the image

  • tap 2 fingers on your mousepad (or right click on mouse)

  • Choose copy

  • Go back to your document

  • 2 finger tap

  • choose paste from the menu

Change the Background Color

  • File

  • Page Set Up

  • Page Color

  • Click on circle color

  • Click on Okay

Share with someone online

  • Click on the Share Button

  • You must know their e-mail or student ID to do this

  • Optional: How to change the share settings to view only and what the different settings mean.
