Author Q&A
Hosting an author visit is a great way to get students excited about reading. Our school had Simone Elkeles visit in 2011. She had a great talk about how she was once a reluctant reader, but has now become an author.
Helpful hints:
School parking lots can get filled up quickly, especially the spots in the front of the school with easy access to the main office. Have a spot reserved for your author. Make sure you have students with welcome signs in the lot to escort your author, but also to make sure someone doesn't move your reserved sign and park there anyway (believe me, it happened!)
Order books for your students to purchase at the event or place orders ahead of time.
Work with local bookstores to coordinate school visits in conjunction to their book signings to save money on author expenses.

If you can't host an author visit, consider holding meet ups at local events that host author signings.
