Contest details from the Long Beach Press Telegram
With Halloween almost here, the Long Beach Press-Telegram is again launching its Scary Stories contest for Long Beach area youth. Winning entries – both stories and artwork – will be published in the Press-Telegram on Halloween. The rules are the same as last year. There will be three age categories for stories and drawings: elementary school (K-5), middle school (grades 6-8), and high school (grades 9-12).

Here are the rules:
Don’t worry. We can take it — we want you to scare us.
And the spooky students whose tales and drawings best fill us with terror and dread, will get a treat: The winning entries will appear in the Sunday, Oct. 30, edition of the Press-Telegram. The top finishers for stories and artwork in each age group, for the second year in a row, will also receive a $20 gift card to In-N-Out.

The submission deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10.
For story submissions, please fill out this online form, bit.ly/3qMNDua. No mail or in-person submissions will be accepted.
All artwork entries must be emailed, with the subject line “Scary Stories,” to ptnews@presstelegram.com. Drawings should be submitted in JPEG format and be no larger than 5 megabytes in size.
Stories must be no longer than 650 words.
Artwork must be original (no tracings).
Entries will be judged based on imagination, creativity, theme and quality.
