Book Check Out - Curbside Pickup
This outline is part of our distance learning proposal that was presented and accepted by the district -
- Physical Books
- Reasons to include in plan:
- Benefits - kids love holding physical books in their hands, extensive library collections with popular titles and topics, does not involve screens
- Challenges - getting books to the kids
- Logistics
- Library Curbside Pickup Program
- Step #1 - Self Selecting Books
- Tutorial Videos will be created to teach families how to view school library catalog and place holds on books in Alexandria.
- Families can also email / call the library to request a book or a “grab bag” of books on a topic or level.
- Step #2 - Pull Books and Bag
- Library staff will pull the books and place them in a bag/rubber band with the student’s name and grade. The bag will be placed by grade level on a cart.
- Library staff will wear masks and gloves during this process to ensure clean books.
- Bags can also “rest” for 3 days before pickup, if additional safety precautions are necessary.
- Ex. Parents request books by Thursday night, books are pulled and bagged on Friday, book pickup days are Tuesday & Thursday.
- Step #3 - Curbside Pickup
- Tuesday & Thursday (hours tbd)
- Parents will call the library direct line when they arrive at the curb and library staff will deliver the books to the curb. Book bag will be handed into the car (similar to lunch distribution).
- Step #4 - Curbside Drop Off & Book Quarantine
- Parents can drop off books during the curbside pickup times.
- Books will be placed on cart and quarantined for 4 days prior to check in and shelving (per guidelines for books).
- Other Details
- Books will be checked out for one month and fines will not be issued.
- Students will be allowed to check out 3 books at a time.
- Students will be able to put up to 6 books on hold at a time, just in case some titles are not available.
We are also working on video tutorials and digital flyers to advertise the curbside pickup program. We are still fine tuning our plan, but are
