Alice in the Country of Hearts (Manga) by Quinrose and Hoshino Soumei

While napping in the garden, Alice Liddell is kidnapped by a white-haired man with bunny ears, who then leaps down a giant gaping hole with her. When she wakes up, she's in a bizarre land filled with behatted Mafia dons, bloodthirsty twins and a power struggle between the Mafia, the Queen of Hearts, and a guy called Gowland. And even worse, because of the bunny-eared Peter White, she is now enmeshed in an game -- and unless she plays through it, she can't possibly go home.

Coraline by Neil Gaiman

An electrifyingly creepy tale likely to haunt young readers for many moons. After Coraline and her parents move into an old house, Coraline asks her mother about a mysterious locked door. Her mother unlocks it to reveal that it leads nowhere: "When they turned the house into flats, they simply bricked it up," her mother explains. But something about the door attracts the girl, and when she later unlocks it herself, the bricks have disappeared. Through the door, she travels a dark corridor (which smells "like something very old and very slow") into a world that eerily mimics her own.

Down the Rabbit Hole: an Echo Falls Mystery by Peter Abrahams

Ingrid is in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or at least her shoes are. Getting them back means getting involved in a murder investigation rivaling those solved by her idol, Sherlock Holmes, and Ingrid has enough on her plate with club soccer, school, and the plum role of Alice in the Echo Falls production of Alice in Wonderland. But much as in Alice's adventures down the rabbit hole, things in Ingrid's small town keep getting curiouser and curiouser.

Gregor the Overlander, by Suzanne Collins

When eleven-year-old Gregor and his two-year-old sister are pulled into a strange underground world, they trigger an epic battle involving humans, bats, rats, cockroaches, and spiders while on a quest foretold by ancient prophecy.
