1. How long will the process take?

  • You must have the Provisional Instruction Permit for 6 months before applying for a Driver's License.
  • 25 hours of classroom instruction (not including breaks or time for meals), home study or Internet training program (must be equivalent to classroom instruction requirements).
  • 6 hours of Behind-the-Wheel training.
  • 50 hours of supervised driving practice that includes 10 hours of driving during darkness. (does not exceed two hours per day)
  • Driving schools must provide at least 100 minutes of actual viewing time.
  • Pass the written law test. If your teen incorrectly answers 9 or more of the 46 questions on the law test, he or she must wait one week before retaking the test.
  • If you fail your behind the wheel driving test, you must wait two weeks before you can take another driving test.

Important Information:

  • You cannot apply for a permit without first having the proper form(s) for driver education and/or driver training classes.
  • If you are under 18, you must hold your license for 12 months before you may transport other passengers under 18
