Digital Portfolio
A Digtal Portfolio is a way to organize student work in one place.
Here is a Sample Digital Portfolio used in a Middle School Computer Skills Class:

A Portfolio is a way to showcase your best work. We will create a website using Google Sites to display the digital work we have done at Lindsey.
Directions:
Click on the + to get a new tab
Click on the Google Apps Icon in the upper right corner
Click on the icon for Sites (purple rectangle)
Find the template for Student Portfolio
Click on the template to open your copy of the template
Customize your site:
Add your first and last name to the document title
Change the Heading from "Your Name" to your First and Last name
Edit the [Name]'s to your first name
Answer the questions for your 3 sentence biography
Here are some sentence frames to help you:
I am a student at Lindsey Academy in the ---- grade.
For Fun I like to....
My favorite subject at school is --- because ---.
Delete the questions after you have answered them.
Add Images:
Hover your arrow over the heading picture
Click on the triangle next to "change image"
Choose Select Image
Go to the search tab to find an image you would like as your heading
Click on the image you like
Click on Select
Strengths and Achievements Section
To Replace the image in the Achievements section, click on the image to select it, then click a second time to get the editing menu
Click on the 3 dots.
From the menu choose replace image and across to select image
choose your image just as you did above.
Add Image by URL:
Once you are in the image selection screen, choose the tab that says BY URL
Open up a new tab for a google search
Search for the image you want to use
When you find the image, 2 finger tap on the track pad
From the menu, choose copy image address
Go back to your site tab
2 finger tap to bring up the paste menu
paste the URL into the box
Click on the Insert Image button
Add/Delete Pages
On the right hand menu, click on the Pages heading
hover over the classes page
click on the three dots
Choose Add Subpage
Name the new page with one of your subjects:
ELA
History
Science
To delete a page, Click on the three dots and choose Delete (delete Art)
Start adding Content starting with your Classes Page
Change School Year
Change Grade Level
Add your first-period teacher for Homeroom
Type in the class schedule that matches your pages (Math is already Created in the Template)
ELA
History
Science
P.E.
Elective
Link your schedule to the pages you have created
How to Link your schedule to the class pages:
Click on the Pages menu on the top right of your screen
Click on the Classes Page
Highlight the class name
Click on the link icon
scroll down to the class pages that matches the class name
Click on Apply
Repeat until all classes are linked to their pages
P.E., Band, and Electives can be linked to the Activities page.
Add pictures to the headings of each subject page
(these instructions are covered in the video for the previous section)
Add your photo to the Classes Page using your Chromebook camera
In the lower left hand corner of your chromebook screen is a circle - click on the circle
This brings up the menu to search the device
Search for camera
Choose the blue camera icon
The camera will open
Click on the white circle to take a photo
The photo will be saved on your device
To insert the photo from your device:
First, delete the calendar box from the template by clicking on the square and choosing the trashcan
Deleting unwanted sections from the template:
Now Insert the Photo you took:
double click in the blank spot where the calendar was, a circle will appear
Click on the Green cloud icon to upload from your computer
look under My Files for the camera - Click on Camera from the menu and the pictures you took will show
Choose the file you want to insert and click on the blue open button
How to insert your best work into your class pages from Google Drive
Click on the page where you want to add assignments from your google drive
Double click on the blank space where you want to add the assignment
A circle of symbols will show up
Choose the triangle to connect to your google drive
Search for the assignment you want to add from your google drive
Click on the assignment
Choose Insert from the bottom
Publish your site:
Click on the Publish Button
A box will show the name of your site and your permissions for viewing:
Who can view my site
Anyone at Long Beach Unified School District
Click on the Publish Button on the pop up window
Share your Site address with your teacher:
Click on the Link symbol at the top of your page
A Pop up box will appear with the link to your site
Copy the link
Paste into the CANVAS Assignment
You can also create a digital portfolio using a Blogging platform such as Blogger or Wordpress.
