"The Message and Finale"

Cue No. 41.mp4

A small quasi-variation on the celesta motif from “Hermione and Harry” opens this final scene. The two of them stand at the edge of the Astronomy Tower, where Harry last saw Dumbledore alive, pondering the events that have taken place and what will happen. Strings wander, commenting on the dialogue and the emotional stagnation that has taken place since that fateful night, as they look at the locket. Harry reveals that it is a fake. The celesta solo returns, closing the conversation.

The 3-note motif appears in the horn, underpinning Hermione’s reading of the letter found inside the fake Horcrux. The signature on the letter is R.A.B., triggering the distant trumpet solo associated with mysterious moments throughout the film that the characters have not yet put together. Emotional strings return as the conversation then moves to what Harry will do next.

The opening of "Leaving Hogwarts" sneaks in, old and weary from the years that have gone by, but no less nostalgic. A falling chord sequence plays over Hermione insisting that Harry will not go on the quest to find and destroy Voldemort’s Horcruxes alone. Once Harry realizes that the three of them are remaining together through whatever is coming, the Trio theme warmly enters.

"Leaving Hogwarts" comes back into the forefront, this time the Hedwig’s Theme portion from Sorcerer’s Stone. As it builds, it transitions into the Fawkes A Theme, when the camera cuts to the majestic phoenix as he flies over Hogwarts towards the sunrise. The music calms down on the final shot of the film, and as the trio stands together on the edge of their final adventure, a final Hedwig’s Theme plays in the celesta and horn.
