"Cafe Fight and A Place to Hide"

DH 10 - Cafe Fight and A Place to Hide.mp4

Dissonant middle-register strings crescendo slowly as Harry realizes that the two men in the cafe are Death Eaters in disguise. The music picks up immediately as a fight breaks out. This miniature action set-piece is purely orchestral choreography without any major themes used, due to how quickly it all goes by.

A shiver in the harp plays when the barista comes out and sees the destruction. As she leaves quickly, Ron puts the lights out using the Deluminator, accompanied by some magical sounds in the orchestra. Hermione closes the shades as the music also grows dark, and then Ron turns his focus to the stunned Death Eater on the floor.

Under Ron's dialogue, a solo horn plays the Death Eater theme slowly, with the high strings below the texture. As the horn descends, it is joined by the rest of its section in unison, and the low strings hold out a deep dark C natural. When Ron turns to Hermione to ask what they should do, she realizes that Obliviating the Death Eater is the best option. The ascending cello motif from the Prologue returns briefly as she remembers having to do this to her parents not too long before. Her theme has a sad moment before choir enters with single notes, preparing the moment when she erases this man's memories forever. The backwards Pensieve motif plays as it did in the opening of the film, and the scene closes out in a melancholic silence.

Out on the London streets, the pulsing from the orchestra returns until Hermione suddenly realizes it is Harry's birthday. A celesta solo above the strings plays a small Hedwig's Theme simply, as a nod to this being Harry's final birthday recognized in the series. Triads of both friendship and nostalgia work their way down from the moment, before the Grimmauld Place trills are reprised as Sirius' old home appears in front of them.
