Cue No. 28 - The Death of Barty Crouch Sr.mp4

Hogwarts Forever plays as Dumbledore announces Harry has won second place in the task. As Harry and his friends get back to the dock below Hogwarts, Barty Crouch Sr. is standing there waiting for him. The music turns from warm to ominous chords, suggesting that the topic Crouch wishes to discuss is not a happy one. The plotting motif begins as we see the scene through Moody’s magical eye, showing us that another plan may be in place. As Harry and Crouch Sr. walk through the woods, a variation on Window to the Past fused with Hedwig’s theme plays as they discuss Harry’s journey, and his parents are mentioned. Dark chords return as they speak, and then Moody approaches, strengthening the uncomfortable nature of the ominous harmonies. The violas play an ostinato half-step motion over the bassline, static and unmoving. The plotting theme plays again as Crouch Sr. seems to be startled by something Moody said...or did.

Hedwig’s theme plays nostalgically over the transition to the Dark Forest. Hagrid talks about how he’s seen the trio begin to grow up over the years. A noble horn solo plays as they reminisce about all they’ve been through together. The sentiment doesn’t last long as Harry gains suspicion of what he’s seeing on the ground in front of him. The low viola ostinato returns as discomfort grows. Something is wrong.

The horns play a variation of the plotting motif, this time moving upwards at the end of the phrase. Could the plot be coming to fruition? The camera moves to the corpse of Barty Crouch Sr. lying on the forest floor. Voldemort 2 plays out sinisterly as the horrible scene is witnessed by Harry and his scar burns. A quick transition brings us to the entrance of Dumbledore’s office. Harry moves towards it, unsure of what conversation will unfold once he enters the room.
