"Harry Asks Cho to the Ball"

Cue No. 21 - Harry Asks Cho to the Ball.mp4

A Window to the Past accompanies Harry’s trek to the Owlery, checking for mail from Sirius. As the theme finishes, it’s nearly interrupted by two pizzicato chords that choreograph Harry and Cho almost running into each other. The english horn plays a small fragment of Window to the Past again as if to suggest that Harry is trying to remember what he was just thinking about before Cho's appearance.

As she walks away, Harry seizes this moment to talk to her. Small fragments of Harry’s feelings for her play in the horn before turning into a full statement of Harry in Love as he asks her to the Yule Ball. This full statement is not a new theme, but a variation on Harry’s Wondrous World moved into a different mode and instrumentation. It’s to reflect the innocence of Harry, much like the original theme, but is now a little older and filled with teenage emotion.

As Cho turns him down, having said yes to someone else already, chords of disappointment accompany Harry as he lies on the couch in the common room.
