Cue No. 13

"Umbridge's Office"

DH 13 - Umbridge's Office.mp4

A comedic orchestral "whomp" announces the official return of Dolores Umbridge as she stands outside the lift. Strings shiver in anticipation of what will happen next, then she steps on the lift, and her theme begins in the clarinet. After a fragmented finish when Harry steps out of the lift, he looks back and dissonant trills move upwards.

Reprised music from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2020) that was originally used during Umbridge's takeover of Hogwarts is appropriately repurposed and re-orchestrated over her regime within the Ministry of Magic. Another Umbridge Theme plays over the shot of her office door. Over Moody's Eye, a quick nod to his motif is heard under the texture. Only halfway through the Umbridge Theme, it gets cut off as Harry decides how to sneak in.

As Harry drops the Decoy Detonators onto the floor, toylike music accompanies their little march across the Ministry floor. The music is very dance-like, and inspired by the movement of the Detonators. When they explode, causing a noisy racket, aleatoric notes fly around creating chaos to match what's on screen. Muted trumpets give the texture something to grab onto, and provide a little comedic moment before the camera cuts into the office.

Inside Umbridge's office, the tone shifts quickly to a much darker feel. The Umbridge tag, which comes from her theme, sneaks in and out of the string throbs and shivers. The key moves higher as Harry searches for the locket. Choir enters along with string harmonics above when Harry finds files on Moody, Sirius, Dumbledore, and others the Ministry wishes to eliminate. Moody and Fawkes B play over their files' shots.

Back outside, the toy-like music returns as the Ministry workers try to remedy the situation. Harry realizes he is disguised as a very threatening and superior Ministry official, and is not acting as such, so he walks away awkwardly. Flutes in triads dance downward and provide yet again another small moment of comedy. Clarinets finish the triads, and the cue ends back in the lift where it began.
