Cue No. 18

"Accusation of Malfoy"

HBPcue18.mp4

Choir begins the cue observing the cursed necklace with an open fifth and tonal melodic motion. It is contrasted with the harp and percussion rolling dissonant chords that do not match the previously established tonality. This musically represents that the object is both magical and mysterious but also dangerous and deadly. Low winds take over with an unsettled line, unsure where to go melodically, and the harp joins in with similar hesitation.

On Harry’s accusation, harmonic strings and harp with solo celesta play the Malfoy theme slowly and with a sort of disbelief to match McGonagall’s reaction. Cellos take over Malfoy’s theme underneath the dialogue, then on Snape’s mention of Harry being the chosen one, the first four notes of Wand of the Phoenix sneak in at the bottom of the texture. Hedwig’s Theme fades out with the end of the cue as the trio leaves the room.
